Integra Systems, Inc. has been asked by www.medsp.com to author an article focused on EMI.  What has been found in past experiences across the the healthcare wireless landscape is a somewhat a disconnected overall wireless strategy.  The most important decisions are often made at the beginning of a project. Wireless planning is often reactive in nature, to the point we have to deploy now 802.11a/b/g, and oh yes voice over IP. Forget about the countless RTLS strategies and come in so many countless flavors.  Now comes the need for pervasive in-building cellular, PCS, and public safety, together with BAS (Building Automation Services), Zigbee.  Add to this the recent JAMA article that got everybody scared about RFID, when in fact the article was technically incorrect on many fronts.  This all points out to absolute need and requirement to have a comprehensive Wireless Business Strategy that is closely coupled to guidance and policy and procedures.  Finally in closing, the recent Cisco Guidelines for WLAN Healthcare implementations were an interesting read. What I find interesting is that apparently did not give any credit to the actual device companies.
