Another $25 has been donated by the Gary and Mary West Foundation to their research center, the West Wireless Health Instituate. Last week at the first open house event in San Diego, the institute officials also announced new partnerships with Cisco Systems, Medtronic, Care Fusion and Carlos Slim Health Institute in Mexico City. I consider this collabroration is what needs to happen in both the infrastructure side of the businesss all with the medical device manufactures. Simply working together to develop standardized process and designs will provide R&D collabroration that will lower costs. In addition, sharing this knowledge of innovative ideas of system procedures for implementation of wireless networks will definitely decrease any potential risks associated with medical devices on an enterprise network. It is not a matter of IF wireless medical devices will be on an enterprise wireless network..they are already here. By creating a standardized process of deployment, management, and continued validation; these systems will work correctly with mimimal risk. This is not unlike the aviation industry where all the avionics and sub-systems need to follow a process of engineering design to not only provide safety, but also decrease costs. As this Institue helps drive the change in the industry, it will finally pave the way for proprietary networked medical devices whether wired or wireless to be a thing of the past.
