The word “telmedicine” has been around for a long time. I would venture to say that in Europe they have embraced the use of providing care outside the walls of the hospital for at least a decade. The issue in the United States has been the reimbursement model. The business climate is now changing.
Over the past few years Integra Systems has worked with major medical device companies to enable their solutions in a myriad of wireless modalities not only within the four walls of the hospital…but outside. Some of the business value of having this “remote wireless connectivity outside of the hospital” includes but is not limited to.
1. Device companies as well as hospitals have begun to to see the value of the “data” that they can gather after the the patient is discharged. Data Analytics and Mining.
2. Ensuring compliance with the use of post-discharge continued care.
3. Decreased costs due to remote connectivity versus travel to the site (home).
4. Decrease the potential for re-admission back into the Integrated Delivery Network.
4. The ability to provide remote service for firmware and software upgrades.
In 2014, the technology and capabilities are simply there. Low Power Bluetooth, 4G, Smart Phones, the “smart and secure connected home” are making this happen.
As said before..”the consumerism of technology”…”drives the enterprise”
