The Ponemon Institute's annual study of the cost of data breaches finds that these costs rose from $6.65 million in 2008 to $6.75 million in 2009. The most expensive data breach evet in the 2009 survey cost one company nearly $31 million to resolve. The least expensive one was $750,000. In the five years that they have conducted this study, they have continued to see an increase in the cost to business for suffering a data breach.
