Maybe this needs to also be looked at in the context of “proprietary and closed “wireless” medical device networks and/or “wireless infrastructure and why standards based “wireless networks” should be used for medical devices.

Like anything else, there are always pros and cons to every approach. Open source solutions and software, and how they relate to the medical field, is no different. Some models will be successful and others won’t. The combination of market factors combined with proper regulatory oversight will be the primary factors as to why open source systems will be successful in the medical field.
