Motorola Solutions and the Opportunity for Zebra

Motorola is going through quite a transformation. A while back the handset division (cellular) and related patents was sold to Google. A move perhaps to go head to head with Apple? Now in the past thirty days Motorola solutions (composed of WLAN infrastructure, bar code scanners and mobile computing), has been sold to Zebra for around 3.4B. Folks may ask who is Zebra? The are the world leader in portable printing. The former Motorola Solutions (now Zebra) will be re-branded Symbol. I see this as a very good move as it provides the ability to innovate and focus on the special attributes of mobile computing and the enterprise WLAN. Most do not know but Symbol was the original leader in the WLAN space, before 802.11b got approved in 1999. Their experience in this space is vast and deep. Most think that a radio is a radio…and this is not the case. Stay tuned to future blogs as this will quite interesting!
