While this is a little late from HIMSS, it is written in the context of all the technologies being discussed.  To me the biggest technology change event and what will resonate with all the focus on the EMR will be www.capsuletech.com

Just like John Chambers, CEO of www.cisco.com at HIMSS 2005 stated, "the days of proprietary networks are over", the days of proprietary device interfaces from medical devices to HL7 or XML to the EMR are over.  Several companies have tried to go down this path, i.e. www.cerner.com to create the CareAware architecture, as well as www.hill-rom.com to create the smart bed, but it is not agnostic but centric to either "their" EMR integration, or "device centric" to their specific  business model.   Capsule supports more than 400 devices from leading worldwide manufactures in the device space. It has proven device connnectivity for 96 percent of infusion pumps on the market, 93 percent of patient monitoring equipment, and support for the largest number of ventilators, anesthesia machines and other devices used in the intensive care unit today.  Capsule's core software product, Data Captor(TM) automatically converts the medical device data to HL7 or XML format and integrates this with any Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Clinical Information Systems (CIS), and/or Alarm and Event Management system to enhance workflow, save thousands of nursing hours, and improve patient care.
