I have been a little absent from my blog as had to recoup coming back from South America. But as I do, a huge sea change is underway "again" in the wireless space. ATT's network has cavitated it seems with the 3G IPhone, because the macro network cannot keep up with not voice, but the data capacity requirements. Plus a little technical stuff of GSM versus CDMA. Add to this the shrinking of the downlink and uplink from the tower. (This is why the dropped calls while roaming) No doubt that ATT will be rushing to implement BTS(s) in every major venue to decrease capacity on their network. (Hence why did they in the past week move to a pay as you go data rate plan versus "unlimited"). All of this means a huge increase to push the additional coverage inside the building footprint. All the driver for inbuilding DAS. The 4G I-Phone will be the application that continues to kill this market. (Not kill this but how do you increase capacity?) Video on 4G? (killer capacity application). Yes, but what about capacity of the overall network? Why not use Wi-Fi? Maybe this means increased opportunities for such companies as Ruckus Wireless to off load capacity for data and video? www.ruckuswireless.com. Disparate networks for these defined business requirements should be evaluated.
